After all the excitement l left my programme on our table, so forgive me if l can’t give a detailed account of last night’s Bristol-based entertainment.

We’d travelled over with a good friend to celebrate our 34th anniversary and were heading for the relatively newly opened Rhapsody Wine Bar – across from the stage door of the Bristol Hippodrome.
It prides itself on being the city’s first Greek wine sanctuary, and while there is meze and drink aplenty, it is also setting out to be a place of entertainment.

Last night, it was hosting the already well-established Secret Cabaret. For those who haven’t come across this particular musical joy before, let me explain that since 2017, Bristol has been treated to pretty regular instalments of show-stopping songs sung by incredible local performers drawn from the city, nearby Bath and elsewhere.

You don’t know which songs from the shows you are going to hear until you get there and find the programme in front of you. Well-known favourites are mixed in with lesser-known songs, but all delivered with passion and talent.

These people are friends as well as artistes, and it shows in the way they are so relaxed and positive as performers.

Bath’s Mr Music Matt Finch has tried something similar this year at Widcombe Social Club. I really would love to see a Secret Cabaret take off in a bigger way in Bath!
