The winners of Bath MP Wera Hobhouse’s annual Christmas card competition have been announced.
Every year, she invites local schoolchildren to submit their designs inspired by the theme “A Bath Christmas.”
More children than ever before entered this year, giving the Bath MP a real headache when it came to choosing a winner!
Said Wera:

“There were some truly outstanding designs, making it unbelievably hard to pick a winner. But in the end, I chose this wonderful creation by Eliza Jewell, aged 7, from Widcombe Junior School. With the iconic Bath Abbey at its centre, surrounded by winter foliage and Christmassy stars, I just loved how Eliza had used such beautiful bright colours – they just ‘popped’!”
As an artist herself before becoming a politician, Wera really appreciated Eliza’s creativity and hard work. Eliza’s design will now be printed on Wera’s personal Christmas Cards, which she will be sending to friends, family and other acquaintances both in the UK and abroad.

Ten year-old Harriet White also submitted a fantastic design, also featuring Bath Abbey, as well as the Pump Room and a festive choir singing carols. Wera found this design particularly skilful and so not only picked this as her runner-up, but for the first time, even featured the runner-up design on the rear of her card.
“The attention to detail was outstanding – and the expressions on the faces of the carol singers really made me smile!” said Wera.
“Congratulations to Eliza, and to Harriet, and thank you to all the children who entered. It was wonderful to see all your amazing pictures. I cannot wait to share the young talent Bath has to offer through my Christmas cards.”
