Pix of the day. Friday, Dec 27th

Out in the mist yesterday and off to view a building l had only recently heard existed. St Mary’s at Charlcombe.

It’s apparently the oldest church in Bath and surely one of the most atmospheric.

A 12th century, Grade 11* listed building that is still very much in use today.

Baptisms take place in either the Norman font or the Holy Well in the church gardens.

  1. This is a delightful little church and much loved. A hidden gem with a lot of history.

  2. A very peaceful and serene place bringing back many memories. I married a Larkhall girl 61 years ago and during our “courting days” we often walked the lanes of Charlcombe and Swainswick.

  3. It’s part of a benefice alongside St Stephen’s Lansdown, and beyond that part of a local ministry group that includes Christ Church in Julian Rd, although the local ministry group link has got rather weak in recent years.
