Staff from Bath’s Coconut Tree Sri Lankan restaurant made a special delivery to the Maternity Ward at Bath’s Royal United Hospital today – as part of a national incentive by the CTC group.
As a way to give a little extra on this bonus day of the February month, the team are celebrating Leap Day by delivering 29 meals (a combined 232) to maternity units in each of their restaurant’s local communities.
TCT wanted to treat the workers bringing the next generation of ‘leaplings’ (those born on February 29) into the world and thank them for spending their extra day doing so.
‘Leaplings’ and the amazing teams that deliver them are especially close at heart for the team as co-founder Rodrigo’s mother was born on February 29 and has technically only had 15 birthdays.
Rashintha Rodrigo, Operations Director and Co-Founder, comments, “My mother is a leapling, having only technically had fifteen birthdays, and our roots are so important to us at TCT. So, we thought what better way to celebrate Mum and give back to the community than to offer a little something to the staff working hard this 29th to bring the next generation of leaplings into the world.”
As well as giving extra to its local communities, TCT offered extra to its customers. People who visited a restaurant on leap day were offered a bonus dish, compliments of the chef. All enjoyed a classic TCT favourite and got to try something new with this extra dish on the house, personally selected by TCT’s wonderful Sri Lankan chefs.

The Bath team donated their 29 meals to the RUH maternity ward this morning.
TCT customers will also be treated to something extra to celebrate the bonus day, with every table offered an additional dish on the house, with compliments from the chef.
