Delighted, today, to see so many families gathered outside Bath Assembly Rooms to watcha traditional Lion Dance that heralded in the city’s celebrations for the Chinese New Year.

It was a colourful start to school half-term and the opening event in a day of Lunar New Year attractions organised by Bath’s nearby Museum of East Asian Art with the help of the Herschel Museum of Astronomy and the National Trust’s Assembly Room facilities.

It’s the Year of the Dragon – one of the most important occasions in the East Asian calendar – and today has been packed with activities and workshops, exploratory trails, and learning about the history and customs of this festival.

The Lion Dance has always been used to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck. We have to thank members of the Bristol Shaolin lion & dragon dance troupe for today’s display.

Here’s a flavour of what we enjoyed…..
What an amazing day !
