It’s a new one on me but last Friday, cheese lovers from across the globe were trekking up to Trondheim in Norway for The World Cheese Awards.
And would you believe it – our very own Bath Soft Cheese Company came away with a tasty slice of the top awards.
A total of 265 judges had the arduous (but delicious) job of tasting
4,502 cheeses from 43 countries. The judges, all experts in their
field, came from a broad range of critics, chefs, recipe creators, buyers, retailers, journalists, broadcasters and more!
During the first part of the judging, the cheeses were given a score out of 100 (on the basis of taste, aroma, flavour, and texture), and these scores determined the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Super Gold winners.
This year, our local cheesemakers were delighted to win these awards:
Bath Soft Cheese – GOLD 🥇
Wyfe of Bath – SILVER 🥈
Merry Wyfe – BRONZE 🥉
These are the same awards where the company’s Bath Blue was crowned World Champion Cheese back in 2014!
From the Super Gold winners, one cheese was selected as the
World Champion, and this year it went to Nidelven Blå,
a Norwegian blue cheese. Congratulations Maren and Ole at
Gangstadt Gårdsysteri!
