Adela’s travels

Elsewhere on Bath Newseum you will see a story – ‘Bath’s Mexican Connection‘ – which relates to the adventures of a former city resident and her connection with the Mayan ruins of Mexico.

In Victorian times, Adela Breton visited the country to make detailed paintings of the ancient temple murals in the Yucatan Peninsula – including visiting the world-class Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza – now a World Heritage site.

Katharine Wall who is Senior Curator at Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery writes:

‘I was interested to see your post yesterday about Adela Breton. We have a video about her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WipxjPvrUho

Also, I attach one of her best pictures, a view through the doorway of one of the temples in Chichen Itza.’
