Finally out of Mexico City and into a completely different environment. A two hour flight to Cancun – a journey that would have taken 28 hours by car – brings us to Cancun.
It’s the most recognised Mexican tourist centre in the world, but we weren’t heading for the beaches but driving on – another two and a half hours – and into the sunset.
After an overnight at a nearby hacienda hotel we will be visiting one of the wonders of the modern world – the amazing ruins at Chichen Itza. It’s the main Mayan archaeological site here in the Yucatan Peninsula and has World Heritage status.
Can’t wait for sunrise!
