An angel stands guard as Puebla’s active volcano ‘Don Goyo’ – or Smoking Mountain – grumbles in the distance. We are in Mexico and visiting a city around fifty miles away from our base in Mexico City.

This image was taken from the courtyard of Our Lady of Remedies Church – a 16th century Mexican catholic church built on top of the summit of the the largest archaeological site of a pyramid temple in the New World, as well as the largest pyramid, by volume, known to exist in the world today.

This is just one of six volcanoes in the area. Mexico has 77 altogether and, like Don Goyo, not all are extinct!
