It’s Pride month and, unlike other towns and cities nearby, Bath still has no annual event to celebrate how far society has come in embracing the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as a social group.

As Wikipedia points out: ‘Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements.’

While B&NES is flying the Rainbow Flag, there’s little evidence elsewhere of any local engagement. So a big thank you to all the retail businesses who are acknowledging Pride Month.

I haven’t been up and down every street in the city so there may well be many more flying the flag.
