Once you stop doing a paid job as a journalist you are no longer notified and ‘accredited’ when there’s a royal visitor in the area.
So my thanks to the person who tipped me off that Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales was paying the city a visit.
Placed by the police at a ‘suitable distance’ l was still able to catch her entering the side entrance to the Percy Community Centre in New King Street this morning where she was meeting youngsters involved in sport.
That’s all l know, other than this was obviously a low-key visit.
