Bath has always done very well in the RHS nationally-organised South West in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions but maybe there are many that don’t know about the city-wide competition organised each year for us more ordinary gardeners.
The Bath in Bloom competition – which is open all residents, businesses, community groups, allotment holders, pubs, hotels, and schools – is currently running.

It is free to enter and all entrants are assessed by friendly judges based on their own merits, with most being given an award.
Stephen Brook is CEO of Bath in Bloom and he told me : ‘All award winners are invited to an awards ceremony in early September, where they can all meet one another, discuss tips and ideas, and receive their awards from the Mayor of Bath.
It is a wonderful occasion where they are recognised for the contributions they make to their own neighbourhoods and this beautiful city.’
