Geoff – the mallet!

Elsewhere on this blog there is a piece about ‘taster sessions’ being offered by Bath Croquet Club and that’s brought in an email from Geoff Ellis – ex local and national newspaper photographer – a man with plenty of visual memories of his time in our city

He writes:

“Your croquet piece rang bells, and my archive source (my brain!) reminded me that I did a ‘pic’ back around sixty years ago at Combe Hay Manor – Barabara Robertson’s place.

The occasion was Mrs Beeton’s Supper Party, part of the Bath Festival programme. Guests were taken from Green Park Station by steam train and entertained en-route by the Pearce Cadwallader Stompers jazz band.

Pic shows me, together with Chronicle Chief Reporter Ken Goodman hamming it up. I think on this occasion, my wife Jean shot the picture for me.

Keeping the nostalgia going, we stopped off last week coming back from the North to lunch with John Price. an ex Chronicle reporter from the early 60s. He is the son of the legendary Eric Price of the Western Daily Press.

I am a bit like an electric car. I require a dose of nostalgia to keep going!

All the best, and carry on with the Good work!”

Thanks Geoff!
