Continuing to enjoy blue skies and sunshine here in Lisbon where we took a We hate Tourism tour of the city during which we found out as much about our driver’s grandmother and the price of housing as we did about the earthquakes and political upheavals that have rocked this country.

We did stop off long enough to pose in front of the Monument to the Discoveries on the banks of the River Tagus and do a double take on the nearby suspension Tagus river bridge which looks just like the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco. It’s painted the same international orange colour.

Talk about look alikes, Lisbon boasts its own Rio-styled ‘Christ’ on a pedestal. This one is called Christ the King and – though the stand is huge, the statue is not so impressively big. Ran out of money said our driver!
