Bath remembers the Queen

I was at the Guildhall in Bath this morning as the doors opened to reveal a special space set up overnight for people to sign a book of condolences and express their feelings – only hours after the shock news of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The Chair of B&NES, Cllr Shaun Stephenson McGall

Amongst those to sign were the Chair of Bath and North East Somerset Council, Cllr Shaun Stephenson McGall, and the Chief Executive of B&NES, Mr Will Godfrey.

The Mayor of Bath, Cllr Rob Appleyard

The Mayor of Bath, Cllr Rob Appleyard also signed the book and expressed his feelings today – on behalf of the city.

The Leader of B&NES, Cllr Kevin Guy, also arrived to add his condolences to the book.

Parade Gardens are free to enter today, and an area around the bandstand has been set aside for the laying of floral tributes.

Understandably l think – human nature being what it is – those coming in at the start of the day were laying them beneath the bed bearing a silhouette of the Queen and celebrating her recent Platinum Jubilee.

Meanwhile, Bath Abbey is open today for people to pray.
