Bath’s New Town

The Mayor’s Guides are now offering free tours of what was once billed as Bath’s ‘New Town.’

The Pulteney Estate, otherwise known as the Bathwick Estate, was planned as a spectacular new residential area for Georgian Bath.

Only partially completed, the plans of Sir William Pulteney and his architect Thomas Baldwin have nevertheless left the city with a stunning legacy – Pulteney Bridge, Great Pulteney Street and Sydney Gardens. Something of a tale of what might have been, the story of the Pulteney Estate is one of great wealth, amazing ambition and stunning architecture. 

The Mayor’s Guides are now offering free twice weekly walking tours taking in the sights of the Pulteney Estate. The walks take place every Tuesday and Thursday, and leave from outside the Pump room at 11.00 am. There is no need to book, just turn up and walk. Further details at www.bathguides.org.uk
