Here’s something to be encouraged. Volunteers from the Student Community Partnership (SCP) joined Bath BID on its Big Bath Spring Clean this week to help pick up litter from streets in the city centre.
Student volunteers from Bath’s universities and colleges were joined by the Mayor of Bath, Councillor June Player, as they cleaned the city’s streets including Manvers Street and North Parade.
The litter pick was part of the Bath BID (Business Improvement District) initiative from 20 March to 1 April, encouraging volunteers to be part of the community and help to tidy Bath city centre in an environmentally friendly way, with support from Bath BID Rangers.
Ghika Savva, Community Liaison Coordinator, said: “We’re thrilled that the Student Community Partnership (SCP) is getting stuck in with the Big Bath Spring Clean. The SCP is all about supporting student residents and permanent residents in coming together and living in the community of Bath. Our students regularly volunteer to benefit the community, including caring for our neighbourhoods through monthly litter picks.”
Allison Herbert, Chief Executive Officer of Bath BID, said: “The Big Bath Spring Clean is a fun, community-led way of welcoming visitors and workers to the city. It has been great to see so much support and interest from businesses and residents in Bath, who are showing great pride in their city by getting involved with this initiative. It is also fantastic to be able to have the Bath BID Rangers on hand to support the spring clean – many will already know what a great job they do cleaning up the city! Thanks to Bath & North East Somerset Council too, for their support in providing the kit for the spring clean.”
The Student Community Partnership (or SCP) is a bridge between the University of Bath and its Students’ Union, Bath Spa University and its Students’ Union, Bath College and its Students’ Union, Norland College and Bath & North East Somerset Council. The SCP campaigns for neighbourly relations, safety, sustainability and other aspects of community awareness.
