Delighted to see a local company has taken over the vacant restaurant in Abbey Church Yard but – along with the roped queuing area on the other side of this open space – aren’t all these extensions into this well-photographed ‘square’ reducing it to not much more than a passageway?

I agree it’s great to see this opening again but the outside development is horrible. It’s out-of-keeping with the beautiful buildings around the Abbey Churchyard – the heaters are ugly, the sign and font equally so and the planters add unnecessary clutter. All they need to complete the scene is plastic plants like the ones in Saw Close. Don’t they need planning permission for this?
