Like me, you may have been experiencing problems with getting your recycling collected on your regular day.
In my case a much smaller hired van picked it up a day late but with a polite and apologetic crew.
I am hearing that my late collection came on a day when eleven regular rounds had to be cancelled.
There appears to be problems getting drivers – even when trying for agency help – and rumours of a recycling service being overwhelmed by increased amounts of cardboard.
Seems our lockdown habits of shopping on line are putting an additional burden on collection services.
I am beginning to wonder just how much of what is collected IS actually recycled?
Anyway l asked for comment from the cabinet member responsible for Neighbourhood Services, Cllr David Wood and here is what he had to say:
“Like many other authorities across the country, we are facing challenges with a range of issues including recruitment, staff illness and a higher demand for recycling services during Covid restrictions.
It has put our service under significant pressure and we appreciate the inconvenience this has caused for some of our residents.
We are working to return to our usual operating levels as soon as we can, including deploying catch-up crews on weekends.
If your recycling hasn’t been collected, please leave it and we will come back for it. If you have any concerns please call Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41. You can also keep an eye on our social media channels for updates.”
