Vacant art

We all know the High Street is changing but not every empty shop in our city has a ‘To Let’ sign in its windows.

If you are out shopping in Milsom Street this week take time to explore In The Meanwhile – a free-to-enter art exhibition which has temporarily taken over a former Gap store at the George Street end of this still busy quarter.

It’s a project organised by Bath Spa University, working with B&NES Council and Milsom Place, to bring temporarily redundant shop spaces into productive use.

The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent economic crisis has seen a large number of shops in the city centre become empty; these vacated spaces are highly visible.

In The Meanwhile, seeks to support the council to reinvigorate these spaces during this interim period with works from current students and alumni from Bath School of Art and Bath School of Design, EMERGE residents and The Studio at Palace Yard Mews.

I think it’s there until next Sunday.
