Henrietta Park hit by storm.

Thank you to Pera Secretariat for these pictures of storm damage to an established Lombardy poplar tree within Henrietta Park that had to be dealt with by tree surgeons in this morning’s wind and driving rain.

Quite a bit of a clean up will be necessary but l have no reports of injury to anyone and no news of damage to property.

B&NES Instagram account says of the tree:

“Originally 34 m tall, it was a British Champion tree and will be a great loss for B&NES.

The park will be closed today while works are carried out safely.”

  1. Is that an ash tree? If so, perhaps it had ash dieback, which is devastating trees right across the country. the way it’s split apart looks like it was ready to go. It’s very sad.

  2. Sorry – didn’t read that properly – I can see you say it’s a Lombardy poplar. That is very sad to see that go. It’s such a wonderful collection of trees in Henrietta Park.
