Bath a Lib-Dem outpost?

Interesting to see in a new poll on voting intentions – mentioned in the Guardian on Saturday – that if an election was held now, neither Labour nor the Conservatives would win an outright majority.

It also predicted the almost complete decimation of the Liberal Democrats – with Bath being one of only two seats likely to return a party member.

The survey of 22,000 – conducted by the research data company Focaldata – says the Conservatives would lose 81 seats, wiping out the 80-seat majority they won in December 2019. Even the Prime Minister would lose his seat.

The poll also predicts the Liberal Democrats would be reduced to just two seats – here in Bath and in Kingston and Surbiton – down from the current 11.

One in four voters who supported the Lib Dems in 2019 said they will switch allegiance to Labour.

Tory supporters were quickly arguing – via social media – that the poll was conducted before the announcement of a Brexit deal.

  1. Just goes to show what a hopeless Parliamentary voting system we have, which provides this see-saw effect from right to left which leaves millions of voters in the middle or with green agendas feeling unrepresented.
