Every vote counts

A call to all Americans living in this area to make sure they are able to register their vote in November’s presidential election.

It comes from Olivia Leydenfrost – who lives in Bath – and wrote to tell me:

“Americans go to the polls on Tuesday 3rd November. The results of this election will have a profound impact not only on the United States, but on the rest of the world.

As an American citizen living in Bath, I have been following what President Trump has been doing to my native country with growing horror. America is more divided than I have ever known it to be. Democracy and justice are under attack, there is violence on the streets, and the Covid-19 crisis is being dreadfully mismanaged. I fear for the health of my family and friends, and I have no idea when it will be safe to take the long flight to the U.S. to see them.

American citizens living abroad who are 18 or over have the right to vote in U.S. elections, no matter how long we have lived outside the country. But we need to request our ballots each year. With less than two months to go, it’s vitally important that Americans act now so that they can exercise their right to vote in this hugely important election on the future of our country. Please visit www.votefromabroad.org to request your ballot today.

Democrats Abroad is the official arm of the Democratic Party for Americans living outside the U.S. We have formed a group in Bath, Bristol and the Cotswolds. We hold regular virtual meetings to discuss issues such as social justice, healthcare and equality.
