Manda for Mayor.

This year’s annual Mayor Making Ceremony took place by virtual means, and you’ll have to use YouTube to witness Councillor Manda Rigby being formally appointed, taking on the historic role as the 793rd Mayor of Bath.

A link to the event has been uploaded via:   Annual General Meeting of the Charter Trustees of the City of Bath, 6 June 2020.

The Mayor’s theme for the year is ‘Combatting Loneliness, Bath the Friendly City’.   The Mayor said “Loneliness is a scourge of our modern-day society, and in creating our new normal as we exit this phase of the virus, I want Bath to keep the community spirit and individual links which have nourished us all through this most challenging time”.  (The  Mayor’s acceptance speech starts at 12:40 on the link above).

Councillor Gerry Curran has been appointed as Deputy Mayor.

Basically, they have switched roles from last year!

Due to the current social distancing physical Mayoral engagements are currently suspended.  However, the Mayoralty and local organisations are finding new ways to engage with the community by virtual means, or at ad hoc events outside.

Any organisations who wish to invite the Mayor to a virtual event can still email mayorofbath@bathnes.gov.uk to enquire.
