Bridge update.

Thanks to Richard Lucking for another couple of pictures from the Bath Quays bridge site where the newly-arrived sections of this new pedestrian crossing have been lined up ready for welding.

Once completed the 60 m long steel bridge will be the first crossing point over the River Avon in Bath for 100 years.

Each part of the pre-fabricated structure – manufactured in Belgium –  will remain in situ until the foundations have been completed and the sections can be lifted into position.

B&NES are going to launch a bridge-naming competition. Bath Newseum has already said many will want a reference to Stothert and Pitt who occupied this area for many years.

Love to hear your suggestions. I have already put forward ‘Titan Bridge’ after a famous crane made on the site, but would love to read yours. PLEASE no ‘Georgian Way’s’ – this area was part of industrial Bath!

  1. How about “The Whale Bone”. Reference to the bra-making factory in the red brick building in the photo.
