Wansdyke Business Centre proposals

Plans to redevelop the run down and vacant Wansdyke Business Centre in Bath’s Oldfield Park district will go online tomorrow for people to consult and comment.

Barchester Healthcare is aiming to create a high-quality 68-bedroom care home to cater for the city’s older population. The company, which also runs the Oakfield Care Home in Weston village, specialises in delivering top quality short and long-term residential care, assisted living and nursing services.

The site will provide sufficient parking for staff and visitors, and incentivised schemes to encourage public transport and vehicle-free travel.

Across the UK Barchester Healthcare has over 220 care homes and six hospitals. At the core of its ethos is the delivery of the highest quality, person-centred care whilst promoting dignity, choice and independence.

Members of the public are invited to view the proposals via an online consultation at www.wansdykeoldfieldpark.co.uk where they can also leave feedback regarding the scheme ahead of a planning application submission.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on public gatherings, there will be no physical consultation event.

Barchester Healthcare’s proposal aims to support B&NES’ housing targets through the provision of much-needed residential accommodation whilst meeting the increasing demand for care and nursing home facilities.

If approved the scheme could create up to 68 full-time (equivalent) jobs in the city. The new care home will employ approximately 68 new staff across the spectrum. The majority of these positions will be full-time.

Andrew Williams for Barchester Healthcare said, “We’re excited to be bringing these proposals forward for the public to comment on at this stage. Later-living is an extremely important topic which needs to be addressed now in order to meet the projected demand in the future.

“At Barchester Healthcare we are passionate about creating comfortable, practical and stylish places for those in our care and we are keen to hear from local people now to gain their feedback before our planning application is submitted.

“The proposals centre around quality care provisions for older people and we very much hope that the local community will support this scheme to allow us to provide facilities and services for older people in Bath.”

The proposals will be available to view online at www.wansdykeoldfieldpark.co.uk. The deadline for feedback is Friday 8th May 2020.

  1. A fantastic opportunity to create a new vision and not copy old failing High Street formats, and make it future proof even more with lateral post-Covid-19 thinking and design. Exciting project if done intelligently!

Maybe get Rob and Laura from Your Home Made Perfect BBC Two series, and get Angela Scanlon involved as an overseer!
