The city gets a visit from the Greek Ambassador next month.
His Excellency, Dimitris Caramitsos-Tziras has been invited to take part in Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution’s World Through Our Eyes series which invites ambassadors from the leading nations to share the current political thinking and actions of their home nations.
He will – no doubt – enlighten audiences on Greece’s current positioning on the world stage and consider its future economic and cultural prospects.
Small in size but great in significance, what do the coming years hold for a country so rich in heritage but burdened by debt repayments until 2060?
In a critical moment for the European Union, Greece sits as a political cornerstone. Is its caution to fully immerse itself in the European project symptomatic of a political culture burdened by years of budgetary problems and populism? Or is Greece making a courageous stand against a “corporate superstate” intent on eradicating cultural and economic pluralism?

This should be very interesting. The ambassador’s thoughts on the extortionate price in democracy and stability Greece – a fount of European civilization – has paid for its membership of the Brussels Empire and its flawed single currency will be enlightening.
