While l have been out of the country and old favourite has arrived in town.
Dave Dixon tells me:
‘Just to let you know the Galloper is back in Stall Street. David and the family will be there until the 5th of January 2020.
Some more information for you.
The Galloper is an English design and, as I said last year, goes up and down as well as round and round. It moves in a clockwise direction. The reason being that an English gentleman always mounts a horse from the left hand side.
Apparently, it all stems from the tradition started by the Medieval Knights whilst jousting. The Carousel which is the American version goes round and round in an anti-clockwise direction.
Apparently the main reason for this was to circumvent the Patent Laws. By going the other way and not going up and down the developers could claim that their design was completely different to a Galloper! ‘
Thanks Dave!
