It’s not every day you come face to face with a two thousand year old Chinese horse in a Bath shop window but – stroll to the Lansdown Hill end of George Street – and that’s exactly what you’ll see standing proud behind the glass in the Ma San Auction House.
It’s a business dealing in Far Eastern antiquities founded by a man who came to Britain as a student from Hong Kong in the 1970s.
Danny Ma (Ma Po Tak) started trading in the Chinese market in Plymouth but moved his business to Bath in the 1990s.
At the beginning of this year he decided to go for a prominent ‘shop window’ approach in George Street and it’s there l met his son Leon who is now Director of the firm.
We started our chat by hearing a bit more about that earthenware pottery horse on display – a valuable relic from China’s imperial past.
The horse will be included in a sale taking place at Ma San Auction at 10.30 am on the morning of Thursday, November 28th. www.masanauction.com
