It was all hands to the flower beds this morning (Monday, July 16th) in Bath’s Parade Gardens where Parks Department staff are putting the final touches to this year’s floral display before the judges arrive tomorrow.
Yes – it’s the ‘South West in Bloom’ time of the year. The regional heat of a national competition – now managed by the Royal Horticultural Society – to find which local authority has come up with the nation’s top public summer display.
Bath was the first winner – in 1964 – of the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition after it was launched to celebrate our parks and gardens.
It’s won many a competition since and must be anxious the lack of rain doesn’t spoil its chances this year.
Enjoy a selection of pictures taken in Parade Gardens today and keep your fingers crossed for our city! Lots of last-minute watering should ensure more ‘power’ to our flowers.
Fingers crossed for a special commendation for Saw Close plastic plants
