The Mayor’s Office has released details of this year’s commemoration ceremonies to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday – starting with the Dedication of the Field of Remembrance on Sunday, November 6th.
It will happen at 2pm in Abbey Church Yard when the Mayor of Bath, Cllr Paul Crossley, will lay the first cross.
Then, on to Friday, November 11th – Armistice Day.
At 11.00 am a Bugler in the Abbey Church Yard will mark the start and finish of the two minutes silence to remember those who died in the service of their country.
In Abbey Church Yard
The two minutes silence will be incorporated into a short Service being held outside the west door of Bath Abbey. Standard Bearers from the Royal British Legion will be located there. The Abbey Church Yard is generally the area where people gather to join in this act of remembrance. The Mayor (Councillor Paul Crossley) will be present.
Meanwhile, at Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down
A Service will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down, at 10.00 am. The Bath United Services Association will be holding a Wreath Laying Ceremony at 11.00 am at the War Memorial, Firs Field, Combe Down. The Deputy Mayor (Councillor June Player) will attend and lay a Wreath.
At Haycombe Cemetery
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Bereavement Services will be holding a Remembrance Service at the Cross of Remembrance at Haycombe Cemetery at 10.45 am. The Immediate Past Mayor (Councillor William Sandry) will attend and lay a Wreath.
And at Twerton War Memorial
A Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the War Memorial at Twerton (North side of St Michael & All Angel’s Church) at 11.00 am, attended by St Michael’s Junior School. Past Mayors
Councillor Tim Ball and Honorary Alderman Mrs Sharon Ball) will attend and lay a Wreath.
Then on Remembrance Sunday – November 13th – there will be a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the War Memorial in Royal Victoria Park.
At 2.30 pm the Royal British Legion Remembrance Sunday Parade and March Past will take place with Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Somerset taking the Salute from the steps of Bath Guildhall.
The Royal British Legion Remembrance Sunday Service will take place in Bath Abbey between 3pm and 4pm.
Milsom Street, New Bond Street and Northgate Street will be closed from 1.00 pm.
The Parade route is Milsom Street, New Bond Street, Northgate Street, High Street, Cheap Street, Farrs Passage, Abbey Churchyard. Orange Grove and Manvers Street will be closed from approximately 2.20 pm ready for the March past the Saluting Base in the High Street at 2.30 pm.
