New broom sweeps cleaner!

Cleaner, greener and more efficient street sweepers are taking to the roads of Bath and North East Somerset. The machines are more environmentally friendly and cheaper to run.

The three new vehicles, purchased by Bath & North East Somerset Council, are designed to sweep in the tightest of areas to keep roads and paths even cleaner.

The new vehicles can also help to make streets and paths safer in the winter. Removable salt spreading boxes can be fitted to two of the machines. The front sweeping brushes are then reversed to sweep snow away from the vehicle, allowing the salt to drop onto the path.

What’s more the new sweepers are better for the environment too. They have the very latest ‘euro’ engines which are quieter and more economical to run.

Cllr Martin Veal, (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services said: “We strive to keep our streets clean and these new vehicles should ensure we continue to do so effectively. Residents can also do their bit to help keep streets clean, by putting rubbish in one of the hundreds of litter bins across the district or by taking litter home.“

Last year Bath & North East Somerset Council removed nearly 5,000 tonnes of waste from the Council’s streets.

You can do your bit too. The Council can help residents organise a volunteer clean-up event in their area, by providing guidance and all equipment. For more information and to get involved contact Council Connect: councilconnect@bathnes.gov.uk or call 01225 39 40 41.
