A new centre for the arts at the University of Bath, which is part of its £100m campus improvement scheme, has been given the go-ahead.
According to Insidermedia.com, Bath and North East Somerset Council has approved plans for the new centre which will include dance studios, theatre, performance spaces, rehearsal studios and an art exhibition space.
There will also be an education suite which is to host executive training and development from the school of management.
The building is part of the university’s £100m programme to improve its campus.
Construction company Leadbitter has been appointed as the building contractor and work is set to begin later this month.
John Struthers, Director of the Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Bath, said: “With this investment we plan to establish the centre as a nationally recognised hub for contemporary arts.”
Dr Graham Abbey, Director of Executive Development at the School of Management, added: “This is a tremendous opportunity for us to deliver innovative learning and development for experienced business leaders in an environment that has creativity at its heart.
“We are delighted to be developing this leading facility that will draw inspiration from the combination of leading management thinking and artistic expression.”
The centre is set to open in autumn 2014.
