People in the Bath area will a chance to hear more about the issues surrounding knife crime and how parents can make informed and positive decisions to keep young people safe during an event in the city next month.
The Bath & North East Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) is organising the gathering at Hayesfield School on June 6 from 6 -8pm, to help parents and carers learn more about the dangers of knife crime and support those who are concerned that their children are at risk.
People attending will have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker with lived experience who has been personally affected by knife crime. There will also be a presentation by Street Doctors followed by a panel discussion with the opportunity to ask questions.

The VRP is a multi-agency partnership that aims to prevent and reduce violence in the area. It works to understand and address the root causes of violence, to prevent further violent crimes from occurring in the future. It also provides resources and supports the work of professionals and community groups who help children at risk or involved in serious violence.
It is made up of representatives from Bath & North East Somerset Council, Avon and Somerset Police, DHI Project 28, Youth Connect Southwest, NHS and more.
Councillor Paul May, cabinet member for Children’s Services, said: “Incidents involving knives have deeply affected our community and young people in recent years. As our hearts go out to the victims and their families, it is imperative that we take a firm stance against violence and work collaboratively to prevent these acts from ever happening again. We want to ensure Bath and North East Somerset is safe for all our residents and this event will support families to draw young people away from violent crime.”
